The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), in collaboration with the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and the National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM) has announced the upcoming “Welcome India” roadshow series. This initiative, supported by 24 industry partners, aims to strengthen the Maldives’ presence in the Indian market.
The Maldives delegation will include key figures such as Ibrahim Faisal, Minister of Tourism, and Mohamed Khaleel, Advisor to the President on Tourism Development. The roadshow is designed as a business-to-business (B2B) event, bringing together industry professionals from both the Maldives and India to fortify partnerships and explore new collaboration opportunities.
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MMPRC, Shiuree, expressed the importance of this initiative, stating, “As of today, we have already welcomed over 65,000 Indian tourists in 2024, reflecting the enduring popularity of the Maldives as a dream vacation destination for Indians. We deeply value this partnership and are firmly committed to its continued growth and success.”
The roadshow series will focus on promoting the unique aspects of the Maldives, including its pristine beaches, luxurious resorts, guesthouses, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant marine life. In addition to networking opportunities, the event will feature an exciting raffle giveaway, with holiday prizes sponsored by top Maldivian resorts such as Kandima Maldives, Nova Maldives, Arena Hotels, Kaani Hotels, Villa Nautica, Sirru Fen Fushi, Holiday Inn Kandooma, and Alila Kothaifaru Maldives.
Promoting the Maldives in India
India remains a crucial source market for Maldivian tourism, accounting for a 6.2 per cent market share of total tourist arrivals as of June 2024. To further enhance the Maldives’ appeal to Indian travellers, Visit Maldives has undertaken several promotional initiatives. These include participation in major fairs such as OTM and SATTE 2024 in February, and hosting renowned Indian model and social media influencer Niki Mehra in May.Looking ahead, Visit Maldives has numerous plans for the remainder of the year. A notable campaign with GlobalSpa, a leading wellness and lifestyle magazine in India, will feature a photoshoot with celebrity Malaika Arora scheduled for August. Additionally, joint marketing plans with travel platforms Cleartrip and Pickyourtrail are in the pipeline.
