The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) is pleased to declare the commencement of registrations for the ALTA Journalism at Altura Award. This competition, now in its second edition, is designed to honor the journalistic endeavors of professionals hailing from Latin America and the Caribbean. It seeks to acknowledge their contributions through stories addressing the aviation industry’s influence on regional countries and populations. These narratives spotlight the sector’s positive impact on ESG (Environment, Society, and Governance) aspects, as well as its pivotal role in propelling socioeconomic development across the region.
“With this award we want to recognize those who keep us informed, who contribute to greater knowledge of an essential economic sector by disseminating information in a timely and well-founded manner. Together we want to contribute to society, as well as to leaders of the public and private sectors , to have a more complete vision of the advances of the industry and the importance of this activity for the economy, politics and culture of the countries,” said the CEO of ALTA, José Ricardo Botelho.
The contest is on the lookout for articles delving into pivotal sustainability and governance matters within the aviation sector. These pieces should shine a light on areas such as human resource management policies, inclusion and diversity initiatives, and the social and environmental benefits of aviation. Furthermore, competitiveness analyses will be scrutinized, encompassing factors like rising passenger volumes, adept regulatory frameworks, and the identification of growth impediments such as high operational expenses and infrastructure congestion.
Applications are welcome from April 10, 2024, to August 10, 2024. The competition is open to professionals working in print and digital media—be it newspapers, websites, blogs, YouTube channels, magazines, or news portals—hailing from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The prize package entails covered travel expenses, including flights and accommodations, to the awards ceremony in Nassau, Bahamas, on October 29, 2024. This event coincides with the premier conference for aviation leaders in the region—the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum—expected to draw over 300 industry decision-makers, including approximately 50 airline CEOs. The top prize includes a cash award, while the runner-up will receive a smartphone along with a sponsored trip.
To enter, registration is mandatory via https://alta.aero/premio-periodismo-de-altura-2024/. Each participant must complete the form on the ALTA website and provide the published material, including the author’s name, publication medium, publication date, and location.
Entries will undergo evaluation by the competition’s panel of judges, who will assess them based on four criteria: relevance to the theme, technical excellence, originality, and the enlightening and innovative approach to the subject matter.
